The color in liqueurs is a direct result of this steeping process; it's like making tea or coffee, but instead of water, you use alcohol and sweeten it with sugar. The tradition of making liqueurs dates back to the ancient times when we first discovered the technique of distillation, and we've been making liqueurs ever since.
